Meet Me at the Mailbox: The Velasquez Family

Victor and Kristina are born and raised Grover Beach-ians (Yes, we just made that up. And yes, you should start saying it too). They both knew that they wanted to stay in the area to raise their family and Green Park has been the perfect place to do it. As the first homeowners of the neighborhood it was exciting to go back and see how they have added to the home to make it their own. Read further for more insights to their decision to move to Green Park and pictures of the different areas of the house.

How did you hear about Green Park?

  • K: We were looking for awhile and had noticed construction going in. We’d been living with my parents and were ready to move on. My dad happened to drive by and saw a surveyor. My mom looked up Paul and everything went from there.

What about Green Park drew you in?

  • K: The green aspect was interesting to us. Everything else we were looking at needed updating. In the end, we found something in our price range that was brand new and didn’t need anything done. All we had to worry about was the furniture and beautifying the home.

What style home do you live in?

  • V: Cape Cod

What is it you like about the style?

  • V: The siding. We like that a lot and like the color too.
  • K: To me, it’s beach-y in the fact that it’s so close to the beach.

Could you tell from the plans that you liked this layout?

  • V: Yeah. This one was more expensive than others on the street, but we really liked this layout.
  • K: I love the entryway. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be walking into what I imagined to be a stuffy hallway. As things started to come together, I saw how open it was and thought, “Wow. This is great.

What are the best features about your home?

  • V: I like the island in the kitchen. I also love the solar. I think we’ve had to pay only one electric bill.
  • K: I like our lazy susans and soft close doors and pull outs in the cabinets. And the on-demand water heater is wonderful. I don’t have to wait in between showers. We can even take two showers at once! It’s pretty cool to walk on warm concrete. It takes some getting used to, but it’s really nice. The concrete stays warm for a really long time. Even after you turn it off, from evening to morning it stays warm.

What do you think about the LED lights in the kitchen?

  • V: We love them. Kristina ends up keeping them on longer than the others in the room.
  • K: I do. I find that I like them better than normal lights. With our nice vaulted ceilings, it looks great. We love our vaulted ceilings. We even start to feel claustrophobic in other people’s homes now.

How much did you customize in your home?

  • K: We picked the cabinet and granite colors and had a great selection to choose from. I had to have a fireplace. But really, we kept it pretty simple because so much was already standard that we didn’t need to do much upgrading.

What do you like about living in Grover Beach?

  • K: Love the weather. The small community. Even though we’re growing, it still feels small. I love the beach. It’s just minutes away!

What is the one thing you’d like everybody to know about your experience owning a GP home?

  • K: The solar is fabulous! Structurally there aren’t any problems. Everybody is friendly.
  • V: I just like the house! We have parks on both sides of Green Park which is perfect for the kids.
  • K: It’s the smallest thing that the kitchen has separated trash. It’s forced me to be more conscious of my recycling.
