Paul and Becky Kane moved to Green Park with their two children Corban and Kambrie this past summer. They relocated from San Luis Obispo when they realized they could get a much more affordable home with high quality features and flexible customization in Grover Beach. Read on to learn about their decision to move to Green Park and what they think about their home now that they live in it.

How did you hear about Green Park?

  • P: We were looking at a house across the street and we saw the big signs in the vacant lot. We didn’t know much about the complex and we pulled the proposal and that’s when we began calling and interacting with Paul [Bischoff].
  • B: We had been looking for a house for close to 4 years before we came across this property. We saw it being graded and were intrigued and finally thought, “let’s do this!”

How was the overall process of buying the home?

  • B: What was really awesome for us was that we were able to customize the home the way we wanted to. We essentially got to build the house, but what we were charged realistic prices. To be able to go through and make the house what we want and have it feel like a custom home.
  • P: There’s little things that we were able to do that other people wouldn’t normally have in their home. For instance, there’s a silver dollar in each corner of the house which is a family tradition from my side of the family. It’s a filipino custom: when you build a house you put coins in the corners of the foundation so your house is built upon a good financial basis. We changed our side door to be the front door and we moved the gate line to the front of the house so that we now can have a designated area that will become a patio. Having all of these availabilities is amazing. Also, it’s been wonderful to have Paul be local because then you have one major point of contact and things don’t get lost so easily in bureaucracy.
  • B: Paul is a really nice guy to work with and has always been great about answering our questions.

What things attracted you to the home?

  • P: The large ceilings! It adds character that you normally wouldn’t see in homes here even at a much higher price point. The permeable pavers is aesthetically gorgeous. The entry-level appointments: granite, slow close cabinets, etc. as starting points take a lot of the work out of the process. Also, the house plan works really well for us and what we wanted.
  • B: I really love that the home is single story. We’ve done two stories, but with the kids it’s not the most practical thing. You get the two-story feel from how tall the ceilings are and how everything is set up, but you don’t actually have to climb stairs all the time! I love that the solar panels are running and our energy bills are less than $15!
  • P: Yes and I see the shift toward more green technologies is a great thing. The reflective panelling that goes on the roof, the blown in cellulose insulation, and the solar panels all come standard and that’s something that you don’t find around here.

Was there anything that surprised your or changed your expectations once you moved into the home?

  • B: That moment when you walk in and you think “everything that I had envisioned in my house has come together”, it blew me away. I had never known what 14 ft. ceilings looked like until we got here and thought, “this is fantastic!” The openness and airiness of it all is incredible. Until we got shades on our windows we literally had to cook dinner with sunglasses on because of how much light came into the room. We even had friends over for dinner once and people who sat on that side of the table wore sunglasses! It was a great conversation starter. Everyone who has been in our home has said “This is a unique tract home. This is not something you would normally see built. for the area.” The fact that we were able to get a house of this quality and caliber only blocks from the beach really just blows people’s mind.

Is there anything you’d like other people to know about Green Park?

  • B: What you’re offering in the home at the price point makes it so that people like us (first home buyers) don’t have to struggle to get into a nice home. We were able to move right in and be in a home that far exceeded our expectations of what we could afford for our first home.
