Meet Me at the Mailbox: Kevin and Sara

Sara and Kevin have been living at Green Park for 6 months. They’ve been in the Central Coast area for about a year, but were living in Cleveland, Ohio previous to that. They are currently renting and have loved everything about living in Green Park! Read on for more details.

  • How did you hear about Green Park?
    • S: We lived a block away and were looking all over for a new place to live. We found Green Park and thought this place is amazing! We have an electric car so how could we not move into a house that has solar panels and all of the things we were looking for in a home? The timing was perfect.

  • What are some of your favorite features in the home?
    • S: Absolutely the solar panels. We basically fuel our car for free! The electric range on our car gets us to work and back. With the built in electric car charging station, we charge our car overnight and the solar panels keep our electric bill at $0 so we are going to work for free every day.
    • K: Our electric bill which averages $3 a month is covered by the CA energy credit we receive and then we really only fill up on gas every 5 weeks so it’s all pretty crazy.
    • S: We love that you can monitor your electric usage via the Enphase monitoring system. You get a lot of neat stats.
    • K: This is a little thing, but the fans in the bathrooms automatically turn on based on the humidity which is something I really love. I love the sizes of the windows too. They let a lot of natural light in.

  • What areas do you like most in the home?
    • S: We spend most of our time in the living room. With the kitchen, dining and living room all connected you have everything you need for entertaining or hanging out.
    • K: Having friends over with this layout is really great.

  • What do you think about the Green Park community in general?
    • S: We love our neighbors so much!
    • K: Yes, the neighbors really are great. The whole community is really open and inviting.
    • S: I thought it was going to get really busy once the road opened up, but it stays really nice and quiet.

  • Now that you guys have been living here for awhile, what local insights do you have for others looking into the area?
    • S: You can ride your bike to the beach from here which is great and part of the reason why we picked Grover Beach in general. It’s affordable to live here, but you’re still really close to the water.
    • K: Living in Five Cities is a lot more affordable than living in San Luis Obispo and it’s much quieter. There’s a lot of parks around and much more family oriented.
    • S: There’s some great restaurants popping up around here too. Ember is our favorite restaurant in the county i think! You have to try it. It’s shared plates, tapas style with lots of local ingredients.
    • K: There’s a strawberry farm just down the road, about two blocks away, that people drive from all over to visit.

  • Is there anything else that you’ve noticed about the home that you would like other people to know about?
    • S: The quality of materials in the house are a lot better than any other house we’ve looked at in the area.
    • K: All the little things really do add up: low e windows, large baseboards, the permeable pavers in the driveway.
    • S: We’ve always had a dream house in mind and then we saw this place and thought, “Here it is!” It has all the things we’ve ever talked about in a house and it wasn’t one we were actively looking for, but here it was.
    • K: Amongst Cleveland and California, there’s nothing like this. I really like the underlying vision of green living and energy efficiency.
    • S: But it still feels like a normal, comfy, regular home that you want to live in!
